LOIS IMOGEN RHOMBERG

  • SET DESIGN: THEATER & OPERA:    My work is decorative, efficient, on budget, and beautiful.    Skills include painting, sculpting, work with fabric, some upholstery, some carpentry, and joyful problem solving.   The set can be built at your shop or ours.
  • PAINTINGS:  Figurative works in oils, at STUDIO PINTURA in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis.  Art-a-Whirl, Art-Attack, Open Studio nights, or by appointment.  (612) 801-1053.  Commissions welcomed.
  • PORTRAITURE: From life or photos.  Either way, my work is known for the  compassionate understanding  I extend to each client, which brings the work to life and grows into a cherished expression of the spirit of the subject.
  • MURAL and DECORATVE:  Specializing in  fine drawing and  color— I work in association with Apropos Painting Studio, a company specializing in décor for commercial spaces and buildings.​

Biography

EDUCATION: 
  • B.A., University of New Hampshire,  majors in Theater Production and Mathematics
  • M.F.A. Equivalent:  ATELIER LACK, a four-year post-college studio art program developed and taught by acclaimed painter RICHARD LACK to  pass on the on the tradition of European classical oil painting, 1993.   The program was also taught by DALE REDPATH and CYD WICKER

PAINTING:
  • Paintings and drawings can be seen at STUDIO PINTURA, #293 Northrup King Building, NE Minneapolis arts district
  • My recent painting "Mass Incarceration/One-Heart at a Time" won an award from the Minnesota State Fair Foundation in 2015  
  • Original lllustrations for "Unconditional Forgiveness" by MARY HAYES-GRIECO,
          published by BeyondWord, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, c. 2012
  • Lead Decorative Painter for VICTORIA'S SECRET (Limited Brands) innovative stores 7/2012 - 1/2013 
          through Apropos Painting Studio 
  • Work has been featured in shows at Flanders Contemporary Fine Art, Marion Swanson Fine Art, the Vern Carver/Beard Gallery, Tea Leaf Gallery, and Zacharies’ Fine Art, all in Minneapolis.  
  • Assistant Painter for MARK BALMA on his painting for the Bush Presidential L, 2009, 
          (a favorite job of mine despite being a liberal!)   
  • My paintings have been featured in  the Historic Grand Hotel in Minneapolis, the Catholic church of Saint George,  theater design firm Schuler and Shook, Apropos Painting Studio in Minneapolis, and private collections.

  • Tech Director/Design Teacher, South High School Theater in Minneapolis, a high-quality arts program, in which students do all  the design and building, 2001- 2012
  • Large Format Painting Workshop at the Atelier, founded by Cyd Wicker and Dale Redpath, about 2003-2005
  • Created and taught a program for children's imaginitive drawing and painting for the Minnesota River School of Fine Art, Burnsville, MN  1996-1999
  • Taught painting and drawing  according to the traditional Atelier method at the Minnesota River School, director Pat Jerde, about 1996-1999
